“People don’t like Abdullah Ibrahim, they adore him.” The Guardian London
50 blinding years of distilled jazz / The Guardian London
“The Great Warmth” Süddeutsche Zeitung 7/2019
“In the sold-out Prinzregententheater, Abdullah Ibrahim plays the enthusiastic audience in his solo appearance in a state of frenzy with his dreamlike compositions. One that people like to listen to, who otherwise quickly run away when it comes to jazz. “(Münchner Merkur)
He has worked with all the greats such as Duke Ellington, John Coltrane and Ornette Coleman. Growing up in Cape Town, discovered and promoted by Duke Ellington, Abdullah Ibrahim made a name for himself as a pianist, band leader, composer and improviser of extraordinary stature. His tone is of an almost shocking clarity. What expresses itself to the jazz connoisseur as a high degree of musical reduction to the essence of expression is simply disarmingly beautiful music for the non-jazz listener.
