Die German Jazz Trophy erhält in diesem Jahr der Pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, der 1934 in Kapstadt auf die Welt kam. Der mit 15.000 Euro dotierte Preis, samt einer von Otto Herbert Hayek geschaffenen Skulptur, wird am 7. Juli 2017 zum Auftakt der Jazz-Open Stuttgart überreicht. Bei dieser Gelegenheit wird der Südafrikaner mit dem ursprünglichen Namen Dollar Brand konzertant in die Tasten greifen. Das Festival endet am 16. Juli auf dem Schlossplatz mit Quincy Jones, George Benson, Dee Dee Bridgwater, Jacob Collier, der SWR Big Band und dem Stuttgarter Kammerorchester.
The German Jazz Trophy is given this year by the pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, who was born in 1934 in Cape Town. The prize, endowed with 15,000 euros, together with a sculpture created by Otto Herbert Hayek, will be presented on 7 July 2017 to the opening of the Jazz-Open Stuttgart. On this occasion, the South African, with the original name of Dollar Brand, will play a concert on the keys. The festival ends on July 16 at the Schlossplatz with Quincy Jones, George Benson, Dee Dee Bridgwater, Jacob Collier, the SWR Big Band and the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.
