The South African jazz pianist and composer Abdullah Ibrahim has lived in the New York area since the 60s, when he was known as Dollar Brand and had an unexpected radio hit with his piece “Cape Town Fringe.” He quickly established himself as one of South Africa’s most important political and musical voices, and his piece “Mannenberg” became an anti-Apartheid anthem. Now 90, Abdullah Ibrahim is still active, and still an elegant pianist.
